...that dogs are ninety percent heart, which I find hard to disagree with even though our dog is 90% heart and 90% so the numbers don’t quite add up for him. If dogs are run purely on heart and nose, what about cats, what makes them tick? Our cat is a hard case to put any sort of diagnosis too, mainly because from the age of six weeks he was raised by a dog. Can you imagine that, a cat that is a better watchdog than our current canine and isn’t interested in any sort of human contact unless it’s cold. SO maybe there’s an argument for nurture over nature there.

On the other hand this fine creature is very much a product of nature, or temperament:

His name is Sandy, Grandpa’s cat back in the day. I like to think of myself as a cat person that can charm any feline however any attempt to touch Sandy would result in the loss of my precious blood, yet as you can see, in the right hands Sandy is happy to sit and pose for a camera. He does look really protective of grandpa doesn’t he? I hope the photographer survived in one piece.

This photo was taken after Sandy bailed up a fox at Grandpa’s farm while he went to get his gun to shoot the fox. The photo appeared in the local paper and Sandy had his fifteen minutes of fame. This was quite a long time ago now and I have never met a cat as tough as Sandy since. I have grown to appreciate that all cats and dogs have their own personalities and refuse to be to sorted into generalised boxes that readily describe their behaviour and tendencies.
